This is a fascinating area where people who are locked on to a particular activity are quite often oblivious to each and everything around them.

The father of the flow state Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi was a Hungarian American Psychologist.

He was born in Rijeka, Croatia in 1934. Mihaly was a distinguished professor who discovered and recognised that a highly focused mental state was conducive to productivity. He named the concept as “Flow” and determined it was the secret to happiness.

Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi And The Flow State

People in Flow are almost like in a trance and are so zoned into the activity they are engaged in which invariably provides total and complete focus. The concentration of a person in flow is amazing.

Sometimes we individually get caught up in a dream like state where effectively we have dropped from the ever-present Beta level brain state to Alpha and then down to Theta level. Our mind is hovering at around 8 waves per second at this point on the border of Alpha and Theta brainwave levels.

Flow State With Children

We have become locked on to an alternative reality to dream state. We have crossed over from the real current world to a parallel world. When we immerge from this flow state we cross back into the real world. It is a stunning parallel reality.

Children do this a lot when they are watching television. You can talk to them but they often can’t hear you because they’re in the other parallel world. It takes 3 or 4 attempts to contact them. Sometimes its like you are endeavouring to contact alien beings on another planet. But don’t forget that you almost certainly have visited this planet as well – at some point as well !

You can definitely experience a positive dream like state. It can be pleasant to go there sometimes and enjoy some time away in your mind. Incredibly your mind can take you anywhere you want to go and when you get more into Flow and therefore more out of what you become more experienced in you will learn to utilise it for your benefit and make more of it on a regular basis.

Training the mind in the art of Flow will enable you to master the concept so that you are able to switch on and energise yourself and take the Body and Mind of you to a far distant planet and come back within a reasonable time frame. Its very powerful to be able to be in control and utilise the effectiveness of Flow. As a consequence you become more in charge of your own destiny so go and enjoy the journey…

6. When in doubt, do something you like.

Popularized by positive psychologists Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi and Jeanne Nakamura, the flow state describes a feeling where, under the right conditions, you become fully immersed in whatever you are doing. Csikszentmihalyi and Nakamura reached this conclusion…

When you’re giving your fullest undivided 100% attention to an activity or particular task that you are especially passionate about, totally focused on, you may find yourself creating the very conditions necessary to experience a pure flow state of mind. It’s a wonderful concept to identify with and understand fully.
